The 15 Best Things To Do In Mui Ne
1. Relax on Mui Ne Beach
First of all, you’ll want to spend some time at Mui Ne Beach. With palm-tree-lined shores, pristine white sands, and breathtaking waters, this is easily one of the most beautiful beaches in Southeast Asia. In fact, Mui Ne is considered to be the ‘resort capital’ of Vietnam, and for good reason!
To keep tourists and locals coming back to this beach, it’s kept clean so you won’t need to worry about trash. That means you can lay your towel down wherever and take in those rays. Just don’t forget your sunscreen!
Mui Ne Beach also offers plenty of swimming opportunities, and there are lots of other activities on offer too.
If you like to spend a lot of time on the beach then I’ve got a top tip for you. Many of the hotels, resorts and even hostels here offer their own private beach area. This way you can relax in style, and you won’t have to worry about the area being crowded. There are other beaches in Mui Ne too but this is the most popular!
The good news is that you join a tour like this, to take a 2-day beach break vacation from Ho Chi Minh City with your personal and local guide.
2. Go on a private jeep tour
For those who don’t want to hire their own vehicle to explore Mui Ne, check out this private jeep tour. It’s a 5-hour tour that will take you to all the best spots in and around the town.
You’ll start at the White Sand Dunes, before heading to the Red Dunes which is a popular spot for sandboarding. From there, the tour will take you to Mui Ne Fishing Village and the Fairy Stream – all of which, I’ll talk about in this guide!
If you’re a bit short of time then tours like this are a great way to see a variety of places in a short amount of time. The tours tend to start early and last for around 4-5 hours so you’ll have the whole afternoon for other activities. There’s also this sunrise/sunset group tour which you can upgrade to include sandboarding and a quad bike ride!
3. Hike down the Fairy Stream
If you’re looking for unique things to do in Mui Ne then make sure you check out the Fairy Stream! It’s one of the most popular attractions in town and for good reason.
The Fairy Stream is a rust-colored river that runs along red cliffs, bamboo forests, and unusual rock formations. The vivid color of this stream and its surrounding cliffs really make this place stand out. Trust me, this isn’t a place you want to miss in your Mue Ne itinerary.
For the best experience, you’ll want to take your shoes off and walk straight through the stream. If you’d prefer not to do that, then you can just take your flip-flops (if that’s still allowed)! You don’t have to worry about the water either, as it doesn’t usually go above knee level.
For this hike, you’ll want to allow around an hour. This gives you 30 minutes to walk there, and then 30 minutes back. However, there are some beautiful photo spots along the way and a couple of vendors where you can grab a drink. For this reason, many people choose to stay longer!
4. Explore the White Sand Dunes
Visiting the White Sand Dunes is hands down one of the best things to do in Mui Ne! Also known as Đồi Cát Trắng, these dunes attract a lot of people making them one of the most-visited attractions in town.
Offering pristine white sands, imposing dunes, and a sense of remoteness, they’re a rather unique place to explore. If you’ve ever visited a desert before, then you’ll know exactly what I mean!
The best way to experience these sand dunes is by arriving for sunrise. Not only will you be treated to spectacular views, but it’s almost like the sun’s rays dance across the dunes. It’s no wonder this place is such a popular spot with photographers!
You can hire a quad bike to explore the White Sand Dunes but I’d recommend avoiding this experience. Although fun, it’s a real mood-killer when you’re trying to enjoy a peaceful sunrise.
Another great option is to join this White Lake during the sunset tour, where you can enjoy the natural magnificence, that will leave you in awe. The lake region is filled with wildlife, flowers, and a perfect sunset!
5. Visit the Red Sand Dunes
Next up, we’ve got the Red Sand Dunes. They’re about a 30-minute drive from the White Sand Dunes and are located along the coastal road. Although these dunes are much smaller they still offer a magical experience. You can join a tour like this, where you can visit both dunes on a half-day tour on a 4×4 vehicle, and all the entrance tickets are included. You need to worry about any logistics, so you can spend your time catching the best views of Mui Ne.
If you hadn’t guessed by the name, the main difference is the color of the sand. These dunes are a rusty red color which means they stand out against the green trees and small waterholes that can be found here.
One of the main things to do at the Red Sand Dunes is sandboard, although you’ll probably need to haggle a price. Even weirder, you’ll often be haggling for a sandboard from children which is a surreal experience.
To make the most of your time here, I’d recommend visiting for sunset. The colors are insane once the sun starts to go down and it’s not a memory you’ll soon forget!
6. Taste delicious seafood
If there’s one thing that Mui Ne’s famous for it’s the food, in particular seafood. Due to its coastal location and fishing village, this isn’t really a surprise. However, for such a small beach town there are a lot of restaurant options!
Ca Bang is one of the most popular choices as it’s the oldest seafood restaurant in Mui Ne. It can be found along Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street and features a terrace that overlooks the ocean. What could be better than that?
Well, the food is a favorite with both tourists and locals alike. The menu is extensive and includes a wide selection of seafood; most of which is priced by weight. This includes lobster, crab, squid, scallops, and fish among others!
If you don’t fancy this place then you’ll find plenty of other restaurants dotted along the beach so don’t worry! Just make sure you check the menu prices before you go in as some of them are relatively pricey.
7. Visit Mui Ne Fishing Village
Mui Ne Fishing Village is located towards the end of Mui Ne Bay. If you head along the coastal road into the main part of town, you won’t miss this area.
The first thing you’ll notice is the hundreds of colorful fishing boats that are moored in the water. You’ll also get to see the more traditional round fishing boats here too. Not only is the view impressive, but this is the place to come if you’re looking to appreciate how locals live.
Many tours include a visit to Mui Ne Fishing Village but for the best experience, you’ll want to head here super early yourself. This way, you can watch the fishermen bring in their boats and their catch for the day! There’s also a fish market here if you wander down the steps where you can buy fresh seafood.
Visiting this place is one of the top things to do in Mui Ne so don’t leave it off your itinerary!
8. Take a trip out to Ke Ga Lighthouse
If you’ve somehow had enough of the beaches in Mui Ne (which you probably won’t) then head over to Ke Ga Lighthouse. It’s just a 1.5-hour drive from Mui Ne town so it’s not a long journey to get there.
Ke Ga Lighthouse is located just off the coast of Ke Ga Cape on a small island. At an impressive 210 feet (64 meters) tall, you can’t miss this incredible building. It was built in 1897 by a French architect so as you can imagine the architecture is very unique compared to others in Southeast Asia.
What’s even more impressive is that the lighthouse can light as far as 22 nautical miles out to sea!
If you’re visiting during the dry season then you can walk right over to the island at low tide. Just make sure you know the high tide times and levels because you don’t want to get stuck here. When the waves are high, you can often use fishing boats from the locals to get across.
9. Wander around the market
As I mentioned previously, there’s a fantastic fish market in Mui Ne. If you’re a fan of seafood then you don’t want to miss out on visiting this place!
When exploring the market, you’ll get to witness all the fish that have been caught that day. As they’ve been caught by local fishermen, you’ll find that the prices are extremely affordable. You can buy a variety of seafood here ranging from lobster to scallops, so there’s something for everyone.
For those that aren’t so keen on seafood, you can visit Ham Tien Market. Here, you’ll find plenty of other food including fresh fruit, vegetables, coconut cakes, and local condiments. However, it’s not just food that you can buy at this market.
Ham Tien Market also offers a variety of cheap clothes, handicrafts, and accessories. This makes it a great place to come if you’re looking to buy a souvenir or gifts for friends and family. Just make sure you haggle down the price!
10. Head out on a self-guided motorbike tour
Some of the attractions in this Mui Ne itinerary are located out of town. The easiest way to get between them all is to hire a scooter, but why not go one step further?
This self-guided motorbike tour includes motorbike hire and helmets but that’s not all! The team here will provide you with all the information you need to make the most of your trip. This includes where you should visit and you can even ask them for food recommendations.
The first thing to note is that bike hire in Mui Ne is extremely affordable and this place is no different. Not only that, but the bikes are 100% reliable and you’ll be guaranteed a stress-free experience.
There are other motorbike rental companies in Mui Ne if you’d prefer so just shop around for the best deals!
11. Try out some wind sports
Due to Mui Ne’s location, this is the perfect place to try out some wind sports. In fact, this beach town is one of the windiest places in the country making it a popular spot for recreational activities.
A favorite among both locals and tourists, Mui Ne has so much to offer. However, what you might not realize is that this town is actually a mecca for both windsurfing and kiteboarding. As such, you’ll find plenty of tour operators offering these activities.
The great thing about Mui Ne is that windsurfing can be enjoyed at any time of year due to the constant temperatures and wind levels. The cross-onshore winds here are some of the strongest in Asia, and I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.
There are plenty of places that offer wind sports but make sure you’re using a reputable company. I’d also recommend comparing the prices for the best deal!
12. Relax and watch the sunset
Although this may seem like a simple one, it’s a must! During your time in Mui Ne Beach, you’ll want to spend some time simply relaxing and this is one of the best ways to do it.
For starters, Mui Ne is a town of unparalleled beauty and this is especially the case at sunset. Many people choose to go on a sand dune tour during this time, as the colors dancing off the dunes are spectacular!
However, you’ll also want to visit one of the beaches in Mui Ne to watch the sunset. This way, you can listen to the crashing sounds of the waves whilst the sun goes down. If you head to one of the more secluded beaches, you’ll have a more intimate experience.
Lastly, you can even dine at one of the beachfront restaurants and enjoy the views from there! There are plenty of them to choose from so you won’t be limited when it comes to options.
13. Take a lesson at Mui Ne Cooking School
Taking a cooking class like this half-day one is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Vietnam. If you’re traveling around the whole country, then you’ll have ample opportunities to do this. This is especially the case if you’re heading to Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Da Nang!
For those who are spending a lot of time in Mui Ne for a relaxing getaway then don’t worry. There are cooking classes available here too, but for the best experience, I’d recommend heading to Mui Ne Cooking School.
There are two types of cooking classes available with one including a visit to Ham Tien Market. This class is only $5 more expensive than the other and is the one you’ll want to go for. After visiting the market, you’ll cook and taste four Vietnamese dishes, and photographs will be taken throughout.
Even better, you’ll be given a recipe booklet so you can cook these dishes once you get back home! Mui Ne Cooking School also runs a fantastic food tour by night if you’re interested.
14. Head out to Pan Thiet on a day trip
Pan Thiet is a coastal city that’s just a 35-minute drive from Mui Ne. There’s not too much to do here but it’s certainly an interesting place to visit.
This city is traditionally known for creating a tasty fish sauce, and it’s also got a quirky fishing harbor. You’ll also want to visit Phan Thiet Central Market which is known for its fresh seafood, fruits and vegetables, dried food, and household supplies. Just make sure you haggle if you want to buy something!
If you’ve got your own transport then there are a couple of places to visit near Pan Thiet. One of these is the Ke Ga lighthouse which I mentioned previously, but you’ve also got Ta Cu Mountain. You can also join this local 2-day private tour from Ho Chi Minh City to visit both, Mui Ne Beach ad Phan Thiet.
Covering an impressive 25 hectares, Ta Cu Mountain is home to lush rainforests, limestone caves, and Buddhist temples. You might also get to spot some wildlife if you’re lucky. However, the highlight of this place has to be Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda which is home to a huge statue of a reclining Buddha.
15. Have a game of golf at Sea Links Golf Country Club
For those who are simply visiting Mui Ne to kick back and relax, why not try a game of golf? The best place to do this is at Sea Links City which is an impressive 5* resort. Here, you’ll find luxurious hotels, fantastic restaurants, and a variety of facilities.
This resort is also home to Sea Links Golf Country Club which is considered to be one of the most challenging golf courses in Southeast Asia. This 18-hole waterfront golf course is the perfect spot to test your skills so what are you waiting for?
Boasting international standards, tricky sand holes, and uneven curves you’ll need to up your game for this one. Aside from the fact that you’ll have fun, the ocean views from here are a reason to visit on their own!
Golf may not be for everyone, but if it’s one of your hobbies then you can’t miss out on visiting this place!

The main thing to note with Mui Ne is that many of the hotels are located along the beach rather than in the town center. This is where you’ll find the majority of restaurants too so is a good area to base yourself.
TOP OVERALL PICK: Bamboo Village Beach Resort & Spa
This has to be one of the most beautiful resorts in Mui Ne! Home to an on-site spa, two swimming pools, a restaurant, and a private beach area – Bamboo Village Beach Resort & Spa is the perfect place to relax.
BUDGET: EVA HUT Mui Ne Beach Hostel

LUXURY: Centara Mirage Resort Mui Ne
This huge resort is located right by the beach and is popular with both couples and families. With a variety of gorgeous rooms, fantastic facilities, and a great location, this place has so much to offer.
How to Get Around Mui Ne
You’ll find that the majority of tourist attractions in this guide are located out of the town of Mui Ne. For this reason, you’ll need to take advantage of transport to get around Mui Ne.
Many people choose to hire a scooter as it’s an efficient way to travel. You also won’t be subjected to the chaotic roads of the big cities which is a bonus! Just make sure you’ve got an international driving license as tourists are often stopped in Vietnam!
Another popular way to get around Mui Ne is by making use of tours. Many of the tours in this beach town include visits to multiple sites. This way, you won’t have to worry about organizing transport as it will all be sorted for you.
Lastly, taxis are available in Mui Ne but you’ll want to confirm the price before you get into the car. Unfortunately, GRAB isn’t really a thing here as many of the drivers stay close to the big cities.
How Long to Stay in Mui Ne
Although only a small beach town, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Mui Ne. To make the most of your visit, you’ll want to balance your time between activities and relaxing on the beach!
I’d recommend staying in Mui Ne Beach for at least two days. However, if you’re planning to take a day trip to Phan Tiet then add on an extra day. This way, you won’t be in a rush and you’ll get to visit all the best sites.
For those who are in need of a relax and de-stress, then why not stay another day? This way you can pay a visit to the spa, read a book on the beach, and try all the delicious food in the area.
Best Time to Visit Mui Ne
Like most destinations in Southern Vietnam; there are two distinct seasons in Mui Ne. The Dry Seasons lasts from October to April and this is the time you’ll want to visit if you can! More specifically, September to December.
This time of year offers a mild climate so it’s not unbearing hot, yet you’ll still be able to relax and sunbathe on the beach. Not only that but there’s plenty of wind between September and December making it the perfect time of year for wind sports! However, for sports like windsurfing, you can really visit at any time of year.
For keen surfers, then April to May is the surfing season so you may want to postpone your visit until then. This is also a great time to go snorkeling and marvel at Mui Ne’s underwater life.
The rainy season makes up the rest of the year and isn’t the most suitable weather for a beach vacation.
What to do in Mui Ne Conclusion
As you can see there are endless things to do in Mui Ne! This town and its surrounding beaches are undeniably beautiful, but there’s a wealth of activities and excursions on offer too.
Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, take a jeep tour of the dunes, or visit the fishing village, this beach town has it all. Not only that but there are a wide variety of accommodation options to choose from. From hostels to romantic spa getaways, you won’t be short of choices.
You’ll find plenty of things to do in Mui Ne itself, but you can also visit some of the nearby sights if you wish. The best way to do this is to hire a scooter, and then you can explore Vietnam’s beautiful coastline.
